Murakami, Toyo [村上洋行]

Toyo Murakami was an art and curio dealer in Shanghai. Till the end of the 1910's worked in Kuhn & Komor firm. After that, in 1916 had founded his own company.

Murakami's firm imported arts, pottery, lacquerware, bronze, pearls, turtle shell products, gemstones, ivory, paintings, prints, textiles, gold and silverware. It had a capital of 100,000 yuan in 1930.

On January 8, 1943 Murakami organized an "Ancient and Modern Woodblock Exhibition" which lasted for a week and took place in his store at 270 Kiangse Road, Shanghai.

In 1944, while still in business, Murakami Toyo capital reached 200,000 yuan.
